Things to do in Arlberg for non-skiers

I dare to affirm and convince that Arlberg as a world class ski destination. Does this make the region lose its charm outside winter? Certainly not. Arlberg is a destination designed for all seasons and all types of tourists, including you if you are not a skier. Choose from these things for you to do in Arlberg!

1. Know the history of the legendary pioneer skiing

Save your skeleton and take a moment to enjoy Arlberg's centuries-old heritage in this famous winter sport. You can do this by visiting the Hall of Fame in Arlberg Ski. Located at the Flexenbahn cable car station, this exhibition shows everything you need to know about skiing in Arlberg, from historic moments to the lives of legendary skiers like Hannes Schneider, and Olympic Gold medalists Egon Zimmermann and Mario Matt.

Aside from the photo display, you will find audio samples, video games, and can even watch ski films like Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason from 2004. For museum tickets it's free, but you need to pay for a ski lift ticket to access the facility.

2. Conquer the Arlberg terrain on foot

Despite being one of the most miraculous winters in Europe, Arlberg also easily attracts tourists. In fact, during the summer, the scenery in Arlberg is no less amazing. With a special outdoors, this area offers a fantastic opportunity to take a leisurely walk.

Hiking trail Anton am Arlberg gives you the opportunity to explore 12 path choices. This track is approximately one kilometer between the center of WellCom Arlberg and the Nasserein cable car station, and round trip with a length of about 18 km with beautiful views to Schnann via Pettneu. If you are not too interested in going too far, just follow the easiest path as far as 2.5 km around the village. The view is no less cool and will amaze you!

Want more challenges? Take the Zugertal winter hiking trail that will take you to the beautiful Lake Formarinsee at an altitude of 1,793 meters above sea level. This path is mostly covered by forests, literally "landscape changes" from visible valleys and mountain top views that you will see from other hiking trails in Arlberg.

3. Enjoy the experience of riding a horse-drawn sled like a fairy tale

Among travelers who love luxury, riding a horse-drawn sled has become a popular vacation in Lech Zürs and in St. Anton am Arlberg. This method will save time, energy, and most importantly, allow you to realize your childhood dreams while enjoying the beautiful beauty of the Austrian Alps. Look at Verwall Valley or Zugertal Valley in a new way without breaking a sweat!

4. Blush adrenaline in the ice rink

Free adventure without limits is a separate activity in Arlberg which is a favorite for tourists, both families and couples visiting the village. An example is playing skating! Here, you can enjoy a variety of exciting recreational activities in many ways and under various conditions. Skating on natural ice rinks, for example, offers fresh air and allows you to enjoy Austria's extraordinary nature. As for those who come with a partner, you can maximize the moment of ice skating by illuminating the famous candle at Lech Zürs am Arlberg, which takes place every Wednesday!

Some skating centers in this mountainous area also minimize the risk of you falling into a broken ice sheet by building artificial ice rinks. One of the facilities is in St. Anton am Arlberg. The resort is open every day, and not only allows you to play as much as you like, but also opens the possibility for you to play fun ice curling. The easiest illustration of this winter sport is "bowling on ice", where you have to reach the specified target by sliding the stone across the arena.

5. Start a cross-country skiing adventure

If you think cross-country skiing is traveling from one country to another by sliding using a pair of surfboards, you are wrong. Instead, this activity involves moving across the field without sliding or gliding. Your heels are not attached to the ski board, so it is possible to lift your feet in normal walking when wearing your ski boots. This popular variation of winter sports in Austria offers the same level of excitement as other activities that winter sports fans do. If ordinary skiing isn't your specialty, maybe this activity is right for you!

St. Anton am Arlberg itself has a network of 40 kilometers along the path that allows you to see many stunning views. Beginners can take the 1.5 km Pofel Runde, while those with more experience can register for the 22 km Loipe Stanzertal track, which will take you along one of the most beautiful rivers in Austria! At Lech Zürs am Arlberg, you will be treated to a network of ski trails of more than 27 km which are categorized based on different levels of difficulty. Perhaps the most famous of them is the Älpele-Spullerwald-Zug trail, the 6.6 km track marked by flat terrain, and the rise and fall in the adrenaline-pumping Alps.

Strong cardiovascular endurance is highly recommended for this activity. However, ski centers around Arlberg will be happy to teach you one or two tips on how to conquer cross-country skiing in Austria in the most energy-efficient way!

6. Admire the incomparable charm of the great Valluga

Valluga Mountain is the highest and most extraordinary peak in the region, which stands at an altitude of 2,811 masl northwest of St. Anton am Arlberg. Unlike many peaks from other famous mountains outside Europe, Valluga is equipped with a cable car system and several hiking trails. Of course this makes it relatively easy to reach the top of the mountain, even for people who are least adventurous or physically unwell.

From a height, you can enjoy views of several Alps peaks which include Lechtal, Allgäu, Ötztal and Stubai. The most amazing peaks are Paziellfernerspitzen, Pazielspitze, and Roggspitze. The best time to visit these mountains is during the summer. However, skiers are welcome to enjoy the Valluga slopes during the winter!

7. Enjoy world-class dishes in the highest restaurants in Europe

Austria is home to many of the highest restaurants on the European continent. Wherever and whenever, you can always enjoy local, regional and international dishes with world-class facilities, including the famous Kaiserschmarren and Tafelspitz - Apfelsemmelkren. Don't forget to enjoy it with one or two glasses of high quality Austrian wine!

But, if you're curious, why are there so many of these restaurants in Arlberg? Easy, male and female athletes (or those who like outdoor activities) need delicious food after having fun with skiing (or other exciting activities in Arlberg). To be honest, Arlberg promises more than just delicious food. They also provide a very friendly service and impressive mountain views.

Being in Arlberg is about appreciating nature fully. Being here is also to fulfill the spirit of adventure, while knowing how to maximize extraordinary time for fun. This place is like a paradise that escapes the attention of the international community.
